Cleaning for heat treating

Cleaning is one of the most important, but the most commonly ignored step in the heat treating process. In this paper, the importance of cleaning for heat treatment will be emphasized. The types of soils typically encountered prior to heat treating will be discussed, and the typical cleaner chemistry. Particular attention will be paid to cleaning required for vacuum processing. Illustrations of typical heat treating cleaning problems will be shown.
